Accident procedures During the school day your child will be under the supervision of the teachers, but accidents still may happen. The procedure we follow is that, if possible, the parent is immediately notified so that the parent/caregiver can determine what course of action to take unless the injury is very minor and only requires simple first aid such as a band aid that needs to be applied. If injuries appear too severe to allow this procedure, the child will be taken to the Public Hospital by ambulance which is covered by the government’s Ambulance Scheme. The school, however, does not assume responsibility for any cost incurred. Arrival/departure Parents are asked to direct their children to use one route only and to ensure that they are aware of road hazards, supervised crossings, road safety rules and stranger danger. If you drive to and/or pick up your children, please drive carefully near the school. There will be many children about between 8.15am-9.00am and at 3.00pm. Please wait for your child in designated parking areas. Assemblies A whole school assembly is held in the undercover area every Friday morning. Parents are encouraged to stay. Students are recognised through the student of the week and gotcha awards. ASSPA Currently the school does not have an ASSPA committee. Attendance Regular and punctual attendance at school is essential. Absences from school must be explained by either a short note, email or personal contact. If your child is late it is important that you have sent a note with them or take them directly to the classroom. Repeated lateness will result in contact with you – the parents, especially if no note accompanies the child. If your child has to leave school early, a parent/caregiver must sign them out at the classroom. No student will be permitted to wait in/near the carpark. Repeated absenteeism will be dealt with according to the Departmental Truancy guidelines and may result in a fine and court appearance. Behaviour management plan At Slacks Creek State School we aim to provide and maintain a safe and effective learning environment for both students, staff, parents and volunteers. School Wide Positive Behaviour Support Program is in plce at our school and is underpinned by our 4 school rules.
Bus Policy Slacks Creek State School has a bus policy which is strictly adhered to. For local trips within a 30k radius of the school and that are on roads with a maximum speed limit of 80km/h we use unseatbelted buses. For any other trips where the children would be on highways or roads designated 100km/h a seatbelted bus must be used. Bus Service Clarks Logan City Bus Company operates a service from Meadowbrook to and from this school. This service leaves Slacks Creek State School at 3.08 pm and drops students at the school at 8.45am. (Check times before travel to ensure timetables have not changed). Contact numbers for Clarks are 3200 9606 or 3200 6754. Choir Students in years 3-7 have the opportunity to join the school Choir. Choir is a valuable part of the school’s offerings to students and children are encouraged to join for the year. It is a commitment for the year. Some rehearsals are held in school time and occasionally they are held outside of normal school hours. Our choir participates in various eisteddfods and performances throughout the year. Class requirements Not enough emphasis can be placed on this aspect of a child’s schooling. Without the correct requirements your child cannot participate fully in the program of instruction. Requirements have been kept to a minimum and most of a child’s resource needs are included in the booklist. TEXTBOOKS THAT ARE ON THE LIST ARE ESSENTIAL TO YOUR CHILD’S INSTRUCTION AND MUST BE A PRIORITY. Cyclists Children are asked to ensure they follow road safety rules and always wear a helmet whilst riding to and from school. We provide bike racks and it is the child’s responsibility to ensure that they have their own bike properly secured. BIKES ARE NOT TO BE RIDDEN IN THE SCHOOL GROUNDS. Dental clinic The dental service is offered free of charge by the Queensland Health Department. Parents will be notified if any dental work is to proceed on your child’s teeth. Appointments can be made by phoning 3209 3905 or 3209 3906. We also operate a dental hygiene program whereby all students clean their teeth daily. Toothbrush, toothpaste and case are provided free by the Dental Unit and Queensland Health Department. Enrolments All children enrolling in a prep year must be turning 5 before the 30th June in the year of enrollment. It is requirement that we sight a birth certificate to confirm a child’s date of birth. Children enrolling from another school require a transfer from their previous school. Please make an appointment with the Principal for an enrolment interview. Excursions/camps This year all year 5, 6 and 7 students will be going on camp. Excursions are a part of the school curriculum and are included to add meaning to a child’s learning experience. A list of suggested excursions will be made available early in the school year along with approximate costs. It is also envisaged that children in a particular grade will all go on the same excursion. This may not always occur especially if there are composite classes. Extra Curricular Activities All students at Slacks Creek State School have the opportunity to contribute to the welfare of this Campus as well as to the wider community. They can participate in Student Council, Library monitor program, Choir, Instrumental Music and Interschool Sport. First Aid We have a first aid room that is staffed by qualified 1st aide trained personnel. If at any time a situation arises that cannot be treated by these staff, an ambulance may be called. All ambulance travel is free under the Government’s Ambulance Levy. Fire Drills/Evacuation Regular fire drills/lock downs are held at the school to acquaint children with emergency procedures while they are at the school. Forbidden articles Water pistols, gun and caps, matches, pocket knifes, chains, chewing gum, mobile phones, walkmans and other objects teachers consider dangerous will be confiscated by any teacher and returned to either the child or the parent at the end of the school day. Mobile phones brought to school must be left at the school office during the school day and may be picked up at the end of the day. Homework Homework is set by individual teachers and is generally specific to classroom activities. Reading homework is an essential part of a child’s development and home reading is encouraged across all grade levels. There are no recommended times to be spent on homework each night.Infectious diseases The following is the Exclusion Table of Infectious Diseases approved by the Education Queensland. For the purpose of this table, a contact means a child of school age in the same residence as the patient. Infectious Diseases Interschool Sport Slacks Creek State School are members of the Logan Beaudesert District of schools and participate in the interschool sports program.
